Reports reaching 9News Nigeria this Friday have it that the already embattled and desperate incumbent governor of Edo state, HE Godwin Obaseki has finally dumped his APC party joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a last resort to continue the race to retain his governorship position.

This move was not a surprise to political observers on Edo APC crisis considering the fact that the Edo state governor has been pushed to the walls and had his hands tied, hence no more way of escape as the APC screening committee mercilessly disqualified him and approved Pastor Ize-Iyamu for Edo gubernatorial flagship.

Dumping APC party and joining PDP presents a glimmer of hope to Obaseki, knowing that PDP had earlier waived hand of acceptance to Obaseki which means that he has a greener pasture in the opposition party.

News Nigeria correspondent in Edo state confirmed from a close aide to Obaseki that the governor has decamped from APC party with a whole lot of entourage including 12 honorable members of Edo state House of Assembly and 18 Local Government Chairmen in Edo state.

The source also revealed that HE Godwin Obaseki has already procured himself an officially issued PDP membership card which was hastily made available to him at Ward 4 of Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State. 9News Nigeria has made inquiries with the Edo state PDP headquarter to confirm the authenticity of the PDP membership card issuance to Obaseki, but as at the time of this report, no confirmable response has been issued to that effect.

From another confirmable source, 9News Nigeria has learned that PDP chieftains and governors saw Obaseki’s move as a welcomed development and had slated to meet with him this weekend to finalize other amiable issues for the interest of the party and the incumbent governor of Edo state.
